Movin' on up...

Guess who's tracking now?!? That's right--it seems that the little bean just likes to do things at his own pace. He can track lights, but really likes to follow his books and rattle. Oh, and he's holding and shaking his rattle! Of course, he did bang himself in the noggin with it a couple days ago, but the past is the past, right?

He smiles constantly, although we think he's in the early stage of teething. He sleeps extraordinarily well still, about 11 hours a night, which has made for a happy family. Oh, and he really, really likes the water, so I have put him in the "big boy" bathtub with me a couple of times. I just hold his head and neck and let him float around, and he digs it.

Oh yeah, he also can roll over onto his side now, a major accomplishment.

While it's very sweet and makes me feel awesome that he now definately knows and can recognize me, we're starting to see a little separation anxiety, especially if he hears me in the room but someone else is holding him. But it's an awesome feeling to be able to comfort him and know what he needs better than anyone else. Yeah, so it's a little selfish, but it makes me feel so good.

So yeah, all is amazingly good. I LOVE staying home with him. I can't imagine not doing it. Jed and I were on the phone the other day and the little guy was fussy, and Jed said something along the lines of, "Wow, that's really hard work. I don't know how you do it all day, every day." And then it hit me--this past month or so, it's not been a chore at all. I enjoy getting up with him if he cries, I love rocking him to sleep, singing to him, having quiet time in his room...and I honestly didn't believe, in the beginning, that I would, at least to the extent that I do. It's the hardest, but by far the best job I've ever had, and I wouldn't trade these moments for anything.

A Life Less Ordinary

Hey everyone,

Been a while since I've last posted--I apologize for the delay; baby and I have been running to and fro from specialist to specialist for the past week. So we go for our two-month checkup about two weeks ago, and Cole isn't "tracking" (following object with his eyes) very well. Off to the opthamologist we go, who says that he is fine, although if he doesn't start tracking soon, we'll look into doing an MRI and/or CAT scan to check his entire visual/brain system. And then, because his kidneys were dialated in utero, we had to have another ultrasound. He still has fluid on his kidneys, although it's minimal, so we have earned ourselves another ultrasound in three months.

I'll tell you what--we have more issues that I know what to do with. Jed remains convinced that these referrals are all a mass conspiracy to steal our money because the bastards know we live on Augusta road. That is some bull-shit. Who knows, though? I just want the little guy to be ok.

He's been doing really well, though. Laughing, smiling, cooing. He loves to go with me everywhere. If I do laundry, he's there, on the dryer, watching me. We sing and laugh and talk all day. It's beyond precious.

All in all, life is beautiful--oh, did I mention this?!? We're going to Rio de Janeiro on March 19. Yeah, be jealous. Be very jealous.
